I was born in Michoacan, Mexico. When I was 8 years old, my family and I immigrated to Salinas, CA in pursue of the American Dream. I was the first one in my family to graduate from high school. Being the first to complete something brings a sense of accomplishment and pride but it also comes with an immense responsibility. Responsibility of making sure that you set the path for those who come after you. The obligation of learning everything and anything someone might need to know in order to follow your footsteps and the pressure to prove that Latinas have the potential to complete great things in life. I was the first in my family to graduate from college. I graduated from CSU Monterey Bay in 2014 with a degree in Communications and Social Work. I joined the Dream Academy in hopes of inspiring the Salinas youth to break the stereotypes and pursue a higher education, and little did I know that the Dream Academy would inspire me to continue my fight for social justice for all Latinos. Currently, I work with the Monterey County Rape Crisis Center as a Prevention Coordinator. I am enrolled in the Master’s of Social Work at Monterey Bay and I am an Intern at Monterey County’s Behavioral Health.
In my free time, I enjoy to hike and spend time with my family and friends.
